Many of you are observant and correct in noting that Ron Paul is very different from Obama. The angle I'm taking is simply one of influence, it's not between Ron Paul and Obama and McCain. At the moment the election is between McCain and Obama. If you have listened to the debates, you know McCain has a very weak understanding of the economy, he's admitted it. I was laughing at McCain and making fun of him before he even emerged from the primaries. His only strength seems to be experience in the military.
Foreign relations:
Obama wants to end the war (just like Paul), he also believes in communication between countries. Keep you friends close and you enemies even closer. - How can you do that without talking??? McCain will not talk to some countries unless they meet some criteria. Obama thinks it's a good idea to talk, be a diplomat....ya know stuff that is on his job description.
Taxes:
Don't be fooled, they both want to spend our money, at the moment we are in a war that is spending a lot of money. McCain will continue the war. Obama will end the war and attempt spending lots of money on health care. Actually both will attempt spending lots of money on health care. I think Obama's plan is a bit more up front with where the costs are coming from. Obama wants to tax those that make more than $250k a year. Well, that's fine with me too. Over all, I think less taxes are best, but if you've got to tax someone, why not tax those that can bear the burden? Many argue that they are the ones that create jobs and spend all the money. Whatever! There are plenty of people that create their own jobs without making that kind of money. If someone spends 50 times what I do on a regular basis, there is something wrong with them, it's not normal even if the money is available.
Abortion:
I totally disagree with Obama on this. I hate abortion very much. McCain only has a position on this issue, in which he is against abortion. Bush made abortion a big item in his campaign...8 years ago! What happened? Abortion is legal, I think that sucks, it blows! But if I vote for McCain, will that make abortion illegal? No, it won't. McCain will most likely never bring it up, the decision to make it legal has passed twice now, I think, meaning that it doesn't really stand a chance a 3rd time. So let's vote for a candidate completely based on an issue that the candidate is not going to do anything about - that is irresponsible.
Partial birth abortion:
Yes, Obama is wrong on this, but I think it was made illegal pretty solidly at 95%, I doubt that it would pass given the highly unlikely chance that Obama had a second chance at it.
Terrorism:
Come on, who thinks Obama is going to be a terrorist because he talked to a person convicted of terrorism? Ridiculous, only pulled out of the GOP's back pocket when they saw defeat coming.
In General:
I see that the McCain campaign is not very well organized and the man is painful to listen too. He is also known for having a temper. Obama is running an amazing campain, many recognize that it's very disciplined, I think his strong leadership abilities were proven with him beating Clinton - which is another good reason to vote for him! As for the majority of democrats in the congress and the senate, maybe we should vote for Republican congressmen and senators, McCain is not the responsible answer.

The Constitution and the Declaration of Independence and all such were made after the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Our founding fathers were inspired by God himself. Should we elect a man with no Christian background? Does he know our best interest? The economy seems to be the main concern eveyone has. They all seem to think the President of the US has everything to do with it. From what I understand he doesn't have any control over it. As for taxing 250K+, that's all the small business owners, Joe the Plumber and all. Universal Health Care is a bad, dumb idea. So is making it illegal to not have insurance. Aaagh. I figure you can vote for whom ever you wish. We're doomed for the next four years either way. Which is the lesser of the two evils? Neither party put out a decent candidate. I'm sick of both parties blunders in office. I say we all pick an independant party and vote out the dems and reps! Let's show both parties we disapprove their actions. Why should we have to put up with either one's abominations to gamble on what "good" they might do? I'll voting for William if he'll make mom the VP.
S, I agree with you on most of your points. I think it would be nice too if we had a better candidate to elect, but I haven't heard of any serious independents running this year. It would be nice to have a candidate that was a good Christian, but we don't. Either candidate wants to reform health care spending, so the question really becomes who is going to do it better. I think the dems came up with the idea in the first place, the republicans are just doing it because statistics show they can't win if they don't. Too many bad policies are put in place with conflicting agendas. Obama is genuinely interested in reforming health care, I think McCain just threw something together that will favor businesses and leave the public with the bill.
In any case, a vote not given to McCain is a vote for Obama.
Obama has a Christian background. It may not be a strong Christian background, but it is Christian non the less. I agree with you Matt, but only a little bit. Yes, Bush did hype the abortion issue in his campaign. It does make you wonder, how did we get funding for the War, but not be able to make abortion illegal? Our economy downfall was not due to one person. It was due to many companies allowing for sub-prime lending, then having come back to bite them in the butt. I am still concerned if Obama gets elected. If we go to a Gov't or even Partial Gov't run Health care system, it will be our taxes to support it. Our Taxes can bearly support Medicare now. So our Taxes will surely go up, no matter who is elected.
Where we need to start, is with those we send to Washington. Those State politians who have voted to legalize abortions. Those who allowed Bill Clinton to send jobs overseas. Those who continue to allow our Military to stay in a War. Our Gov't needs a complete overhaul. That will never happen, but saying it is the President who does it all is way off base as well. Our lawmakers need to be overhauled, not just the President of United States.
I agree with you Matt. I think you can tell a lot about leadership skills by using the organization and dicipline of the campaign as a measuring stick. My dad always rants about Pres. Bush. The President of the U.S. is not God. (I think people forget that). He cannot fix or be responsible for every problem. But Pres. Bush has done a number of bone headed things. There are so many huge issues to look at. Health care is a big one for me. I have lived in a country where socialized medicine was the policy. It definetly did not solve all the problems, although so much of it had to do with a corrupt dictator. Our current system is without a doubt broken and we need to do something to improve it.
I liked Obama at first...but in my gut I cannot vote for a democrat. Democrats stand for everything I am not. They will always FOR abortion. They will always vote FOR homosexual rights. Those things alone go against everything I was ever taught to be right and good. I don't usually get involved in political debate because I don't usually care that much what someone thinks one way or the other. But I guess this time, I feel like if I say nothing, then I stand for nothing. The reason nothing has been done about abortion is because of the people voting on the bills. How many of them are democrats and how many of them are republicans? Democrats have had control of the senate. For me, it is not a question of whether abortion is legal or illegal. It was made legal a long time ago. But what is the next step? If we have a democrat for president and a senate where democrats are in the majority, chances are, more change with abortion is possible. A law could be passed making it possible to abort a baby much later than it is now. Do I want to see that happen? With regards to war - Clinton took a lot of military spending money and put it elsewhere. What did that do? It weakened our resources. If Obama wins, he will very possibly do the same thing. Then what happens if we are attacked again and we have even less resources? It's called a draft. I personally, would rather be on the offense than the defense. As far as having talks with other nations without having them meet criteria first? That's called smart. It's called standing for something. O.k. the healthcare system. Yes, it needs work. Neither of them have good ideas in my mind. But it's o.k. because neither of them is going to be able to get the funding they need for their big change proposals anyway. For me, it's not really about the person, it's about the party anymore. Very likely, the next president will be making nominations for seats on the supreme court. Do I want a nominee who will stand for the rights I believe in? Or the rights I don't? That is where I go republican again. I don't mean to come off as trying to convince people that what I think is right. People will vote for who they think they should and that is their right. But I do stand for something, and it has taken me a long time to get here =). Have fun on voting day everyone =).
A friend of mine explained something about the republican party today. He said there are the social conservatives and then there are the fiscal conservatives. McCain is the fiscal conservative. He has a stance on the social issues in line with the Republicans, but he's not going to move on them. Palin is a social conservative but probably doesn't know what fiscal conservative means...obvious from her recent shopping trip.
The more I hear people talk about how they want a Christian President, the more I realize how intelligent our Founding Fathers were. For instance, in our Constitution we have the Freedom to Worship how we see fit. Saying, you can be Buddist, Muslim or whatever you see fit. I do not think other religions in the White House would be any worse than some so-called Christians. I would like to see a Good Christian in the White House, for that matter I would like to just see a Good person, with good morals and values in the White House.
I voted early because I didn't want to take Josh and Abby and stand in a long line. I'm really glad that it is a closed ballot and I don't have to say who or why I voted the way that I did. In an after-thought I wished that I had written in a few names instead of picking ones from the ballot...Then I would have really voted for who I wanted.
what I am glad about, is that we live in a free country where people can express their thoughts and opinions and not get shot, imprisoned, etc. I am glad that everyone is different because the world would be boring otherwise =). I will be glad when this election is over so that no matter who wins? We can all just start praying our hearts our for him because that's what that person is going to need the most =). (p.s. whether someone is fiscally conservative, or socially conservative - which McCain is enough of both for me - they are still conservative. And I will stand with them any day more easily than a liberal - which I used to be =). Sorry Matt - it is the Libra in me - things must be equal....so....if someone pushes strongly enough for one thing, I will usually throw something out there to equal out the playing field a little bit. You just happen to be "lucky" enough that I feel comfortable enough to do that with you lol - I can't ALWAYS do it =). =)
